West End Lane Potholes Fixed - Now What About The Rest Of Them?

Tempoary Repairs on West End Lane When Kedington was hit by the first of this winters plague of potholes a quick patch up was put in place as soon as a gap in the snow allowed it (at least in the worst areas), but soon the subzero temperatures undid that work and ate deeper holes covering not just West End Lane but many areas around the village. These included The Westward Deals Estate, Silver Street, School Road and Kings Hill. It was not until this last week that the holes on West End Lane were re-patched after spending a few weeks in a particularly dangerous state which had claimed the wheels of at least one car. However this patch in it's self was only another temporary fix intended to last until the Highways department is allocated a fresh budget at the end of the month. Then Suffolk County Council Highways Department (the responsible body for the upkeep of Kedington's roads) will make a decision on what roads will be properly resurfaced and when. The Parish council are looking at whether resurfacing work could be done as part of a planned school crossing scheme across West End Lane at the bottom of Church Walk.

Residents in the rest of the village are keen to know when other holes will be mended. School Road still has several large gashes in it's surface and two pot holes on the Westward Deals estate that in her regular emails to the county council pushing them to fix the holes the parish clerk is now referring to them as "craters" (and residents of the estate would not think this an exaggeration).

Despite constant requests for the many dangerous holes around the village to be fixed from members of the Parish, Bough and County Council, The Suffolk Highways department have yet to give any date for work on the remaining damaged parts of the village road network. The chairman of the Parish Council Terry Wheeler commented that the more people that contact Suffolk County Council the more chance something will be done. The number to do this is 01284 352000.
