New Proposed Estate For Next LDF Consultation.

The Current Stourmead Estate Radically different proposals for the Local Development Framework have been proposed for Kedington ahead of the next round of consultations due to start on April 12th, which could see the Stourmead estate replaced with 65 homes.

The Local Development Framework set's out a rough plan for development in all towns and villages in the Bough of St Edmundsbury over the next 30 years. In the previous round of consultations plans were put forward to build homes on the field next to church walk, on the in land behind Kedington House on Sturmer Road and on land between Lime Ridge and Taylors Farm Road. The new recommendation on which the next round of consultations will be based has thrown out all these suggestion and turns it's attention instead to the Stourmead Estate.

The Stourmead Estate was created in the 1990s to house former patients of the Risbridge Mental Home which was closed at that time having been on the site of the Risbridge estate since Victorian times. At the time of closure half of the grounds in which the imposing Victorian building stood was developed as housing and became Risbridge Drive and Cordwainer Close. The Stourmead Estate is currently in the process of being wound down with current residents to be moved to other locations (You may have noticed the building going up between the rubbish dump and the bowling ally at the bottom of Coupals Road) and plans are already being made for this area to follow the rest of the old hospital grounds and become housing for the general population.

It was revealed at the general village meeting last year that Suffolk Metal Health Partnership, the current owners of the site were in very early stages of planning to develop the site after the closure. At that time some concern was raised by residents of Risbridge Drive that all the traffic for a new estate would have to drive past their front doors. However full plans for any development are not yet finalised and other entrances to the development are a possibility.
