Miss Meadowlark 2010 - And The Winner Is...

And the winner is... The centrepiece of the Kedington year must be Meadowlark and the figurehead for that occasion each year is Miss Meadowlark. On Friday night 12 young ladies of the village gathered at The Community Centre to compete for the honour.

All the contestants were interviewed by the judges starting with those applying for the role of Miss Meadowlark's Attendants. Seven Girls between the age of 9 and 12 contested to be one of the two attendants, all of whom made a positive impression on the judges.

Ben The next position to be filled was the role of Escort to Miss Meadowlark. A role created for the first time this year to allow boys to participate. Whether it was that in this first year few boys were aware of the existence of the role or less interest from boys in general for such competitions only the passing of years will tell, but this time only one boy put himself forward for the job.

Finally it was the turn of the girls wishing to take on the duties of Miss Meadowlark. The five girls between the ages of 10 and 13 were asked about themselves by the Judges. Then each in turn recited the words "I now declare Meadowlark 2010 open."

The Judges The judges then considered the merits of the various contestants finding it a particularly hard decision to choose between the one contestant for Escort and himself. Finally all the contestants were summoned to line up in the main hall where first Miss Meadowlark's Attendants were announced as Amiee and Emily. Next Ben Imse was declared Escort to Miss Meadowlark. Finally Sue Brown announced that Miss Meadowlark 2010 is Molly Betts. Molly then received her sash of office and tiara from last year's Miss Meadowlark.
